SMFA Highlights

Professor of the Practice Kendall Reiss presented her ongoing research project BEING [with] TREES on Wednesday, February 14 for the College Art Association, Annual Conference. Chaired by Dr. Martina Tanga, the panel is on "Learning from Trees: Artists & Climate Solutions".

Katherine McCaffrey and Professor of the Practice Bonnie Donohue will host a discussion on Tuesday, February 20 at 7:00 pm about their current exhibition at Kingston Gallery: Killing Mapepe: Sex and Death in Cold War Vieques. This will be a hybrid event, where people can attend in-person at the gallery, while the event will also be available on Zoom. Register here to attend.


Alpha Massaquoi, a second-year MFA student at SMFA, will also give a gallery talk at Kingston Gallery—in person only—on Friday, February 16 at 6:30 pm.

Checks Cashed Here opens at the Lowercase Gallery on January 30. Curated by Print & Paper Postgraduate Teaching Fellow, Hannah Jacoby-Brooks, the exhibition features pieces from the Intro to Digital Fabrication students of Fall 2023, as well as risograph works. The show explores the concept of value through the materiality of fabricated objects. Join us for a mini reception on February 12 from 4 pm until 5 pm, featuring small foods and beverages. Dinorá Justice: The Lay of the Land is on view at the MFA, Boston through April 14.

The exhibition by Traveling Fellow Dinorá Justice explores historical perceptions of femininity and the natural world across the artistic canon.
