SMFA Highlights

Professor of the Practice Mags Harries is exhibiting five sculptures as part of the exhibition Undercurrents, on view at Concord Arts through August 16 which focuses on water and human impact. An artists reception will be held on June 16 and an artists panel will be held on June 29.

Lecturer Kata Hull has a new exhibition entitled Thin Ice on view at the Rankin Gallery at Catamount Arts, St. Johnsbury, Vermont through June 11.

Professor of the Practice Laurel Nakadate launched Thesis Shows 2022, a listing website for BA, BFA, and MFA thesis shows across the United States and Canada. The project was made as a collaboration between SMFA at Tufts and Yale College students. 

Professor of the Practice Laurel Nakadate launched MOTHER a group show at George Mason University, which runs through May 29. The show features the work of twenty-two contemporary artists exploring the subjects of mothers and motherhood and was co-curated along with Don Russell and Lily Siegel.  

Lecturer Maya Erdelyi-Perez will be a featured artist at the ICA Boston Art Lab this spring and summer 2022. There will be a special art-making event with the artist taking place on Saturday, May 28 from 10 am – 4 pm. 

Professor of the Practice Patte Loper's exhibition Patte Loper: Laboratory for Other Worlds will open at the Bellevue Arts Museum in Bellevue, WA on May 20 and be on view through January 2023. 

Professors of the Practice Mary Ellen Strom and Patte Loper created an installation entitled Bright Ecologies that was on view at the Tisch Library from November 12 - May 4. The work was completed as part of the Tufts NeuroArt Lab, a collaboration between Urban and Environmental Planning, Tufts Engineering, and SMFA. The work will be presented as part of MA candidate Lindsay Naughton's final thesis, "The Walkable Neighborhood and Public Art: Testing a Method for Objectively Measuring a Perceptual Urban Design Quality."

Professor of the Practice David Antonio Cruz is featured in an exhibit entitled Part of the Elegies: Still Lifes in Contemporary Art at Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco through August 21.

Professor of the Practice Rachelle Mozman Solano’s film All These Things I Carry with Me was selected by the Toronto International Women Festival and the Berlin International Art Festival.

Professor of the Practice David Antonio Cruz is featured in the New England Triennial 2022 at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum and Fruitland Museum through September 11.

Two of Director of Art Education Susan Barahal's stone sculptures were selected to be included in the juried exhibition Natural Visions, a celebration of Earth Day, at The Lexington Arts and Crafts Society in Lexington, MA. The exhibition runs through May 15 and relates to nature, the environment, and conservation. 

Professor of the Practice Rachelle Mozman Solano is featured in the exhibition MOTHER at Mason Exhibitions in Fairfax, Virginia through May 29. The exhibit is curated by Professor of the Practice Laurel Nakadate, Don Russell, and Lily Siegel.
