SMFA Highlights

Our SMFA community includes faculty, staff, students, and alumni who are accomplished working artists, scholars, researchers, and activists. Below is a running listing of some of their many recent exhibitions, awards, publications, and other notable accomplishments.

Professor of the Practice Patte Loper has a solo show on view at Bellevue Arts Museum entitled Patte Loper: Laboratory for Other Worlds

Professor of the Practice Jennie Jieun Lee's solo show Marie is on view at Martos Gallery in NY through October 22, 2022.

Lecturer Thyra Heder's new book Sal Boat: A Boat By Sal launched on August 30.

Professor of the Practice Jenn Schmidt completed a residency at AGA Lab this summer. The work she created during the residency, titled For Clara: Shortcut on an Extended Plane, is on view at De Bouwput Galerie.

Alum Gianna Stewart has recently completed seven custom artworks for reception desks located throughout the new Hale Building at Boston Children's Hospital.

China Academy of Art has included alum Theodore Cantrell's Doctoral Thesis in their collection of papers. Collection title: “中国美术学院留学生优秀论文选编。” Selected Essays of International Students of China Academy of Art." 感谢高昕丹，主编.

Artist and educator James R. Chisholm, DIP '72, has works included in the collections at the Harvard Extension School, Endicott College, North Shore Community College and many private collections.

Professor of the Practice Ethan Murrow was invited by D+S Fine Art Editions (Paris, La Force, NY) to build work for a new limited edition lithograph. It was supported in part by the Tufts University Faculty Research Awards.

Beth Krensky, BFA '88 has a solo retrospective on view at Yale University titled Between Spirit and Matter, on view September 21 - December 10. The exhibition features installations of performance pieces and ritual artifacts "inviting viewers to inhabit the space Krensky does herself: the in-between of matter and spirit, the profane and the sacred".

Beth is also one of five performance art finalists for the 16th Arte Laguna Prize for the piece Dispatch from Solitude #1: Walking the Unknown Path and will perform a piece in Venice in March 2023.

Professor of the Practice Mags Harries is featured in a new profile by ecoartspace, which describes her ecological-themed work.

Professor of the Practice Elisa Giardina Papa’s work is being exhibited at the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, "The Milk of Dreams." It is curated by Cecilia Alemani and on view through September 25.

Lisa Russell, MFA, has an exhibition of new work called Intonation on view at the Dolby Chadwick Gallery in San Francisco through August 27.
