Undergraduate Studios

Although communal studio spaces are available for students 24 hours a day, some may wish to explore sustained studio practice in a dedicated space. Tufts' Boston Fine Arts Campus in the Fenway district offers a variety of private studio spaces for students to pursue their work. Studios are accessible through specific classes, project proposals, or capstone projects.

Intermediate Studio Practice Classroom
Intermediate Studio Practice classes are available by faculty approval to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. These classes give students the opportunity to work closely with faculty members who guide them in the building of their studio practice and the refinement of their voice and body of work.

Project Studios
All students may apply for studio space in the Project Studios based on approval of specific projects through the Dean’s Office. These spaces are designed to support ambitious projects that require dedicated space over a sustained period of time.

Senior Thesis Studios
Students have the option to apply for the Senior Thesis Program as a capstone program in their senior year. Thesis students participate in a year-long trajectory of research, writing, art-making, and career-building centered around critical dialogue with peers, faculty, visiting artists, and arts professionals while building a studio practice that culminates in a year-end Senior Thesis Exhibition. Senior Thesis Studios are located in the SMFA Mission Hill Building allowing undergraduate students to work within a community of faculty and graduate students as they prepare for their next steps after graduation.
