Visit & Connect: Undergraduate Programs
Visitor Guidelines
Please review our visit guidelines below before registering for a campus visit.
- Visit Registration: Registration for a campus visit is required. We are unable to accommodate those who arrive on campus and do not have a scheduled appointment.
- Face Coverings: Masks are no longer required, but all visitors are encouraged to wear a 3-ply or KN95 mask while indoors. We will have 3-ply masks available at check-in for visitors who need one.
- Arrival on Campus: Please stop by the security desk upon arrival for directions to the Admissions office. We recommend arrival no earlier than 15 minutes before your program begins so that an Admissions staff member can be stationed at the front door to greet and check you in for your visit.
During the fall, the SMFA at Tufts Admissions team travels around the world to visit art classrooms, attend portfolio review days, and meet with talented and engaged prospective art students. While we’re out on the road throughout the fall semester, the Admissions office is only open on the days we offer campus tours. We’d love to see you on campus but aren’t able to accommodate walk-ins and don’t offer self-guided tours; please browse our calendar below to register for an official campus tour. If you have any questions about visiting SMFA, please email SMFAadmissions@tufts.edu.
SMFA Fenway Campus Visit
During a campus visit, an SMFA at Tufts admissions counselor will introduce you to SMFA through stories and images of our community, and a current student will lead a tour of our specialized art facilities on the SMFA Fenway campus. Visits typically last one hour.
Please review our visit guidelines below before registering for a campus visit.
Virtual Information Sessions
In the Virtual Information Session, you’ll hear all about our curriculum and degree pathways, our amazing network of faculty and staff, professional preparation, and other big-picture aspects of the SMFA at Tufts experience. We’ll cover financial aid and the application process, and you’ll have an opportunity to ask an Admissions Counselor any questions that come to mind. Browse our calendar of events and register using the link below. Virtual Information Sessions typically last 40 minutes.
Virtual Tour & Student Experience
In a live Virtual Tour & Student Experience session, current students will show you around campus with action shots of our specialized arts facilities, plus some off-campus highlights around Boston. They’ll spend some time chatting and answering questions about getting involved in our community, how they utilize both campuses, and what life is like as an SMFA at Tufts student. Browse our calendar of events and register using the link below. Virtual Tour & Student Experience sessions typically last 45 minutes.
Virtual Portfolio Reviews
Although attending a Portfolio Review is not an admissions requirement, it’s a great opportunity to meet one-on-one with an Admissions Counselor to receive valuable guidance on portfolio preparation and ask the questions that will help you envision how you and your artwork will fit in here. This program provides a space to dive deeper into a conversation about your art practice, what you want to get out of the program, and how your portfolio can help you get here. If this is your first portfolio review, you can learn more about the process here. Browse our calendar of events and register using the link below. Reviews typically last 30 minutes.

Virtual Group Visits
If you are interested in having an admissions staff member host a virtual visit for your art class or organization, please contact SMFAadmissions@tufts.edu. We are happy to offer groups SMFA-focused virtual information sessions or virtual tours or can provide a broadly applicable presentation about choosing the right-fit art school and building a portfolio.
National Portfolio Day Events
National Portfolio Days, organized by the National Portfolio Day Association throughout the year, provide an opportunity for you to meet with representatives from colleges and universities and receive valuable feedback and guidance on your portfolio before you submit it as part of your application. All events are free and open to the public. When you visit SMFA’s booth, you’ll leave with portfolio feedback and an idea of how you and your art practice will fit into our unique program. Art educators and school counselors are also invited to attend and gather information and brochures from university representatives.
Check the schedule to see when we’ll be at a National Portfolio Day in a city near you or register to meet us from anywhere in the world at an Online National Portfolio Day.
SMFA at Tufts is hosting the Austin National Portfolio Day on Saturday, September 28th at 10:00-2:00pm (CT). We hope to see you there! For questions about the Austin National Portfolio Day, please contact smfaadmissions@tufts.edu.
