Students with a high school diploma or equivalent seeking a professional degree in the studio arts supported by a robust liberal arts curriculum 
(Approximately 2/3 studio coursework and 1/3 non-studio academic coursework)
Students with a high school diploma or equivalent seeking a professional degree in the studio arts as well as a Bachelor’s degree in a specific major within the School of Arts & Sciences
(Approximately 1/2 studio coursework and 1/2 non-studio academic coursework)

  • Earn a minimum of 120 credits
  • Complete 76 credits of studio coursework and 42 credits of Liberal Arts Distribution requirements (including 15 credits of art history)

  • 10-12 courses of non-studio Major

Who is it for?

Students with a Bachelor’s degree in any area seeking an intensive and exploratory year of studio artmaking supported by seminars in art history and professional practice as a preparation for an MFA degree or as professional development

Students with a Bachelor’s degree seeking a rigorous interdisciplinary studio curriculum, framed by academic discourse and the development of professional practice, culminating in a final thesis exhibition

Students with a BFA or BA in Fine Art seeking an intensive studio program to further develop their expertise. This program is also available to SMFA at Tufts BFA students as a Fifth Year Master’s Program.

31 credits program includes:

  • 2 Full-Time semesters comprising 28 credits of studio art including Post-Bac Seminar and Consultation
  • One 3-credit art history course

68 credits program includes:

  • 4 Full-Time semesters including 56 credits of studio art, MFA Mentorship and Advising, Grad Critique, and Grad Seminars
  • 4 non-studio liberal arts classes
  • Thesis Exhibition

30 credit program includes:

  • 4 Advanced Studio Art courses or Art Seminars
  • Graduate Professional Practices course
  • Creative Practice Mentorship course
  • 2 non-studio liberal arts courses
  • Creative Project & Professional Presentation
Minimum Prior Educational Experience Required

Who is it for?
Students with a Bachelor’s degree seeking teaching licensure at the middle and high school levels. This program combines classes in education, art education, and studio art with a semester of student teaching in a Boston area PK-12 school
