Course Description

Color is an essential tool for designers and illustrators, and yet using it effectively means navigating a dizzying maze of gamuts, systems, profiles, and technologies. This course demystifies color by surveying its full range, beginning with the historical, optical, cultural, and theoretical factors which influence its use. Students will use hands-on projects to bridge color’s theory and application. We’ll investigate such topics as creating color palettes; using CMYK and PMS inks as well as special finishes like varnishes and foils; color-correcting images and optimizing file formats; preparing digital files for press and for the Web; calibrating displays and proofing — and how all of this relates to working in the Adobe Creative Cloud.

Level: Introductory to Advanced
