Course Description

Launching a freelance career in art and design can be intimidating. It’s hard to know where to start with so many opportunities and challenges to navigate. Freelancing 101 breaks it down into five P’s— planning, portfolios, promotion, pricing, and protection — and shares strategies and tools to tackle them one at a time. We’ll cover the basics of how to showcase your work, select a portfolio platform, network, and — yes — actually earn a living as a creative professional. Along the way, we’ll discuss real-world topics like contracts and intellectual property, choosing printers, and even how to set up your own custom email address. This three-night workshop gives you what you need to get out there and start getting noticed. Participants are encouraged to bring their self-promotional materials -- anything from finished pieces to sketches and wish lists -- for a group portfolio and logo review.

Level: Introductory to Advanced
