Ariel Baez is of Afro-Dominican decent, born and raised in Roxbury, MA, and darn proud of it. In 2012, Baez received his Bachelor of Arts from Denison University in Granville, OH - where he majored in Studio Art. In 2018, Baez then earned a Master of Fine Arts graduate degree at School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.
Their work uses mixed-media sculptures and painting exploring the theme of abstraction that break away from the traditional practices. This practice originates from exploring ways to visually explains “what is art”, “what is a painting”, and “what is a sculpture” to individuals who aren’t expose to art education, and of arts endless possibility. Recently, Baez had been exploring depictions of mental health behaviors specifically to Social Anxiety and General Depression through abstraction.
