Charles Gibbons is a Massachusetts-based graphic designer and educator who specializes in type design. He received a BA in English literature from Boston University, studied design for three years at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and holds an MFA in graphic design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Professionally, he spent the '90s as a designer for the University of Minnesota, as assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin, and teaching at RISD. In 2001, he joined the Library of Congress where he oversaw the rebranding of the U.S. Copyright Office. In 2007, he returned to work with educational clients and opened his own practice the following year. Since 2009, he's taught at the University of Maryland's University College where he's a full professor. A self-described type geek, he's designed award-winning fonts for both the retail market and individual clients.
