Biography

John received his Master's in Landscape Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and his Bachelor's in Studio Art from Boston College. He is the founder and principal landscape architect of Sealand Design in Providence, RI. In addition to his work at SMFA, he teaches Design Principles and Materials Assemblies in the Department of Landscape Architecture at RISD. He has also taught landscape and architecture courses at the University of Rhode Island and Roger Williams University. His interests lie in leveraging emergent technologies and renewable materials for the creation of high-performance, low-maintenance landscapes and structures. He is also engaged in exploring topics around originality and creative individuality in relation to the predictability of style and movement cycles in art and architecture. John’s short story, Deepfake Forests, was published in Take Shape Magazine No. 3.
