Biography

Louis Meola is a Boston local who received a BFA in printmaking from Emmanuel College and an MFA from SMFA at Tufts University. An avid printmaker who will "literally print anything", Louis has made prints with skateboards, trash, broken press beds, dirty faculty napkins, crab shells, and rusty copper. He next wants to experiment with broken glass and/or spaghetti. In his own words, "I prefer the messy side of printmaking, and no I am not referring to crooked margins and dirty edges, I'm talking about noise, information, plate tone, and experimental approaches. You can leave your academic wiping at the door."

Louis recommends all young artists try printmaking because working in a medium that is so repetitive allows students to build up a strong relationship with their imagery and materials.
