Artist statement

Val is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores themes of identity through portraiture and quilting. She is particularly interested in the intersection of art and science; and primarily paints scientists in lab, at home, or celebrating life events in an effort to honor and humanize the profound work scientists contribute to society. She incorporates screen printing, traditional painting methods, mold making, and sewing techniques to explore these themes.
