Terra Wang

Biography

Jiaxuan Wang (b. 1997) is an image maker/photographer born in Beijing, China, and raised in a multi-cultural background. She holds a BFA (2019) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is currently pursuing an MFA at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. Jiaxuan Wang’s work has been exhibited by galleries in Rome, Lazio, Italy, Stockton, CA, and Portland, OR. Her experiences as an immigrant shifting between countries—China (1997), Australia (2008), and the U.S. (2014)—made her realize the estrangement among her close relatives. Later when she discovered that alienation is not only caused by long-term separation, she began to re-examine and explore her family psychologically through photography and its commonalities/origins with her other relationships.
