Jean Chung was born in San Francisco, CA and raised in Seoul, South Korea. Working primarily in design and writing, Chung expands on the idea of research as an act of care, and the creative potential of research itself. Kitsch and humor acts as a point of access to their personal archive. Chung is a BFA candidate at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, projected to graduate in May of 2021.
Jean Library features publications and designed collaterals by the artist. The hyper- curated installation, guised as a library space, embraces yet ridicules the idea of brand identity and research institutions as an arbitrary means to categorize. Each publication is concerned by the act of seeing and observation as much as it is with care practices, driven by a constant process of research and revision.
