The Family Dinner

This thesis work is about trauma and the emotional pain. The body of work is a representation of these aspects of life. The installation discusses the subject matter from the imagery of being abused emotionally and, in some cases, physically. The theme is based on anguish, as well as the way each individual deals with it. How can a child find their way towards emotional stability?

The installation is titled The Family Dinner and asks what happens in a setting where a discombobulated family is having dinner? How does that affect a kid’s psychological views? The work is presented on four large pieces of raw canvas in which, from top to bottom, multiple stripes of ripped red stained painted canvases are sewn on top of the canvas. In the middle of the installation there is a dining table with broken plates, glasses, and silverware. There is a hidden recording of disturbing sounds of humans fighting during dinner.
