Artist statement
Contrary to popular belief the athlete is not on drugs
There is a culture in basketball in which you do not question the coach or his ideals. He is in charge, you are recruited for what your body can do, for a specific skill or purpose that you bring to his system. My paintings are my reactions to this system.
My large-scale paintings consider and reflect upon moments in my life where I have felt humiliation and helplessness in the face of being exposed and vulnerable. There is shame, embarrassment, and hatred in these paintings. These moments are painted in a fantastical way and meant to invoke idiosyncratic subjectivity.
