Keegan Shiner
Credit D'état is a performance started in October of 2017. The work is an institutional critique of the absence of credit where credit is due. The performance was influenced by Dada, Richard Prince, The Guerilla Girls, and Robert Rauschenberg. Keegan Shiner uses well-known-artist works in collage, only crediting the artists in the title of the piece. The intention is not to critique artists who do not make things by hand, but rather, to critique the institution's perception that unless there is one name credited, a work of art loses value. The performance challenges that credit is a valuable commodity that skilled laborers and artists use to earn a living and the absence of displayed credits is harmful to the art community.
Exceptional Tour Guide is a performance in which the artist's persona "Kevin West" gives himself tours and/or leads groups on tours of cities. Keegan was an SMFA Montague Travel Grant recipient and traveled in January (2018) to London, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, Warsaw, Vienna, and Venice to perform the self-guided tours. He has also performed tours in Boston, New York, Ottawa, and Athens, Ohio.
