Artist statement

In my art practice, I explore ideas through sculpture, installation, textiles, and sound. I am drawn to the ways humans interact, as both individuals and groups of individuals. In particular, I’m interested in the spaces created from these interactions—such as family parties and community gatherings—and ways they enact forms of resistance, agency, and the production of self-determined identities. The works I create are representations and re-presentations of these moments and events. The core intention of my work is to engage with people, asking them to consider their position within their surroundings, both physically and historically.

I graduated with a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2010, majoring in sculpture and installation. Following my undergraduate studies, I have worked extensively as a studio assistant and in-house sculptor for various fabrication studios with different specialties. These included outdoor commercial sculpture, mascot costume and prop making, as well as interior wall finishing and custom art installation and furniture. I am also active in community organizing and have served in the community arts sector as an arts workshop facilitator and program coordinator for non-profit organizations catered to underserved youth.
