Graduate Professional Practices

A required course for all MA Creative Practice students, Professional Practices is relevant to artists working in any discipline. This course outlines strategies for artists negotiating the professional aspects of creative industries and the art world. Topics include residencies, grants, taxes, licensing, invoicing and teaching across a diverse range of fields. Over the course of the semester, master’s students establish best practices for building a healthy and sustainable career. Other elements of this course include writing and presenting on your work and group discussions on contemporary topics. This course is also offered as an elective seminar to MFA candidates.

Creative Practice Mentorship

A core component of the curriculum for MA Creative Practice offered each spring, this course provides Creative Practice students a constructive environment to engage in intensive group discussion around the trajectory of their work. Students engage in group critique throughout the semester, as well individual advisor meetings, presenting works in progress as they prepare for their artist talk.

Final Project

In early May, the Masters of Creative Practice candidates will present the culmination of their work to the community through a day of public artists talks. Candidates will discuss their visual and academic research, as well the progression of their creative practice through slides, lecture and Q&A. Talks are open the public.
