A Post-Bacc that prepares you to be part of the contemporary creative landscape.

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate is a one-year program that combines intensive studio work with seminars, studio visits, and engagement with guest curators and artists. Students receive individualized attention through the close advising and mentorship of faculty.

The program is designed for students who have completed a bachelor's degree and want to immerse themselves in rigorous studio art-making. Whether you have recently graduated or are preparing for a career pivot, the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate offers an immersive studio experience that is excellent preparation for graduate study in art or for professional practice as an artist.

Studio Requirements

Post-Baccalaureate students register for 14 credits of studio arts coursework each semester of the program, chosen from across the SMFA curriculum.

Visual and Material Studies & Post-Baccalaureate Seminars

In addition to fulfilling studio requirements, all Post-Baccalaureate students take one seminar in Visual and Material Studies and two Post-Baccalaureate Seminars, which includes student and professional presentations, directed group discussions and writing projects, critiques, and off-site visits to museums, galleries, and collections.

Professional Development & Mentorship

Throughout your Post-Baccalaureate year, you'll develop and refine skills that are vital to building and sustaining a professional art practice – from learning to write grants and residency applications, to identifying and pursuing curatorial opportunities, to building a professional network with gallerists and artist colleagues. You'll also take part in a weekly studio visit with faculty and receive regular feedback and support in developing your studio practice.
