Student organizations at SMFA and Tufts serve both educational and social functions, giving students the opportunity to engage with others, develop valuable collaboration and leadership skills, build meaningful connections and friendships, and have a lot of fun!

Our students come together on political and cultural issues, as well as individual interests. Below are the current active clubs at SMFA.

Current 2024-2025 Clubs

  • SMFA Student Government Association (SGA)
  • Graphic Novel Club
  • Tufts ACM SIGGRAPH Student Chapter
  • Mural Club
  • Clay Club
  • Fiber Arts Club
  • Stockwell Collective
  • Club Curate
  • SMFA Print Club
  • Digital Fab Club
  • Jumbo XR Club
  • Salon Soiree

If none of the SMFA clubs match your interests, each year students have the opportunity to form new clubs. Reach out to SMFA SGA or Student Life at SMFA for more information on how to form a club at SMFA

In addition to SMFA-based groups and clubs, our students are also active in the over 300 Tufts student organizations supported by Tufts Office of Campus Life.

Events and Outings

SMFA Student Affairs hosts many events during the year. Some of our most popular events include:

  • MFA Wellness Wind Downs with Student Life and CMHS (Counseling and Mental Health Services) – Each semester, find Student Life Staff and mental health counselors in the atrium for a relaxing activity to wind down during stressful times in the semester.
  • SMFA Prize Cab – Each semester, find Student Life Staff in the Atrium with SMFA Academic Advisors. Schedule an appointment with your advisor for a “ride” in the prize cab to test your registration knowledge and win official SMFA merch and Rhino Bucks.
  • Out + Proud at SMFA – In October, we celebrate National Coming Out Day with a celebration in the atrium. We welcome all!
  • SMFA Sidewalk Sale – Our popular student sidewalk sale occurs twice a year. We typically host the Sidewalk Sale on the Medford campus during the fall semester (October), and at the SMFA in the spring semester (May). Members inside and outside of the community are invited to shop creative and original works including paintings, drawings, jewelry, T-shirts, ceramics, prints, and much more.
  • Halloween Party – Each year the community comes together for a costume contest, tarot readings and other spooky activities.
  • Thanksgiving Dinner (Lunch) – During November students come together as a community for a warm meal and lots of thanks.
  • Art Sale – Featuring thousands of works from SMFA students, alumni, faculty, and community members, this annual Art Sale held every December is not to be missed.
  • New Year Kickback – This annual event is an opportunity for the SMFA community to come together at the start of the calendar year and spring semester and set intention for the year with delicious food and fun activities.

SMFA Student Life regularly organizes trips for our students; we have travelled to New York City, museums such as MASSMoCA, Dia Beacon, Magazzino Italian Art, and the ICA Boston, and to local art centers like the South End’s SoWa district.
