The StAAR Center on the SMFA Campus

SMFA Writing Consultations

The StAAR Center offers one-to-one appointments on the SMFA campus to discuss any writing project, from class assignments to artist statements and capstone projects. Our writing consultants are friendly, experienced, non-judgmental readers who can support you through any stage in your writing process: from brainstorming and organizing ideas to clarifying and polishing your work. StAAR Center writing consultations are free for all undergraduate or graduate students at SMFA.

Appointment time slots are one hour long. To make an appointment, log in to SIS and choose "Tutor Finder" from the drop-down Academic menu. Then choose the type of project and appointment time that works for you.

Academic Coaching

The StAAR Center offers one-to-one appointments on the SMFA campus to create more effective strategies and solutions for learning and life balance based on your style and needs. You can collaborate with a consultant on the topics that interest you such as planning, learning strategies, and well-being. Your Academic Coach or Graduate Academic Skills Consultant cheers and encourages you as you make change in your life. These sessions are available to any undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at SMFA.

Find more information about the program or request a consultant on the StARR Center site or email Claire Weigand, head of the Academic Coaching Program, with any questions.
